‘VOICES OF OUR FUTURE’ at CERES

Two local primary schools from Moreland are developing performances about climate change to present at ‘In the Hot-House’ weekend festival at 12.45 pm on both days. The project is called ‘Voices of our future’ and is an initiative of the Melbourne Social Forum with guidance from Community Wellbeing at Moreland City Council and also the ‘Fun n’ healthy’ in Moreland project. ‘Voices’ has been made possible by funding from Moreland City Council.

Where: CERES Community Environment Park, cnr Stewart and Roberts Streets, Brunswick East

Saturday 18th April – Corpus Christi Primary School performing 12.45 pm

Sunday 19th April - Fawkner Primary School performing 12.45 pm

Environmental educators Vox Bandicoot, who are developing the school children’s performances with workshops at the schools, are coordinating the project. The school children will have a wonderful opportunity to increase their awareness about climate change issues and develop their performance and drama skills. Family members, the school community and the Moreland community are encouraged to attend the performances and the festival.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about climate change, but more importantly they have the chance to express their thoughts and feelings and to have their voices heard! They are creating upbeat, optimistic performances with messages of hope about their futures! Showing how they can do small things in their own lives, that add up to make a big difference.”

Says Simone Sky, Drama teacher at Corpus Christi Primary School, Glenroy.

About ‘In the Hothouse’

The ‘Voices of our future’ project is part of the larger umbrella event ‘In the Hothouse’. In 2009, climate change is the central theme with ‘In the Hothouse’ as the title of the 4th Melbourne Social Forum. The world is changing rapidly, with major crises such as Climate Change and The Global Financial Meltdown polarising in people’s minds the need for action.

In the Hot House is a weekend festival that aims to do just that, bringing together diverse areas of Melbourne’s community to lead discussion, engagement and (most importantly) action. To create and promote ideas that attendees can take home and put into effect immediately, making a real difference to their lives and the lives of those around them.
